The ministers for health and children respectively will get plenty of cardiovascular exercise in the coming months as they flex their power-muscles to display their vigorous opposition to childhood obesity. Beyond making the duo look good and feel better about themselves, however, their exertions are likely to be a waste of energy.
The dimensions of the weight problem among children are enormous, and were highlighted last week by the latest dispatch from the ongoing study 'Growing Up In Ireland'. The report found that a quarter of nine-year-olds were either overweight or obese.
