Why political renewal must now be a priority
It seems the current body politic cares only for itself as everything -- even our hope -- fades around us, writes Jody Corcoran
Those twin imposters, emigration and unemployment, were to the forefront more than ever last week, the week when everything, even hope itself, seemed to be lost.
To back up that doom-laden contention, for which I apologise, I could recite here the statistics of the week, as produced by the Central Statistics Office, and by others, but that seems to be an almost entirely pointless exercise.
I will share instead two anecdotes that occurred within minutes of each other on Wednesday in an Insomnia cafe on Baggot Street, where I met a friend for a cup of coffee.
