We need a chief, not one of the lads
Social media may have tripped up Brian Cowen but politicians are now highly visible and accountable at all times, says Celia Larkin
'One more such victory over the Romans and we are utterly undone.' Pyrrhus
For now, Brian Cowen seems to have gotten over his little hiccup. However, that remains to be seen. When you're leader, you can't stay up half the night partying with the lads. You can't run with the hare and hunt with the hounds.
You've got to decide if you're a chief or an Indian. Once you do your job you can plod along, scoff at the notion of image, mutter all you like and sound as bored as a teenager locked into a family dinner and get away with it. That's when you're an Indian. When you're the chief, you have to be a cut above the rest. That's what makes you the chief. You inspire confidence. You give leadership. You offer solutions.
