'Warts-and-all' honesty is refreshing

THE level of transparency into the standards in teaching and learning in Irish schools offered by the chief inspector's report is refreshing.

Such comprehensive "warts-and-all" information has never been published before and it is important that it is shared, so that everyone is aware of any deficiencies and understands the challenge involved and their role in it.

The good news is that schools, at both primary and post-primary level, are generally doing a good job.
