Waldorf exits stage left after old pal Statler

Now it's an unfortunate but true fact that all-too often the words "politicians" and "Muppets" appear in the same sentence, but there's always been something of the Statler and Waldorf about Dermot Ahern and Noel Dempsey.
Many times over the years, the two boyos have sat together in the best seats in the House (the government frontbench) and -- in the grand tradition of 'The Muppet Show' and its cranky critics -- tossed dog's abuse across the chamber at the antics of the opposition, pouring scorn on their star turns and winding up the chorus-line of backbenchers (and nobody laughs at their quips any louder than themselves).
And so, given the closeness of their double-act, it was little surprise that once Statler (Dermot) announced that the curtain was about to come down on his political career, his exit stage left was speedily followed by Waldorf (Noel).
