Tom Brady: Public show of disrespect will only do damage

It's not that rare for ministers to suffer the indignity of a walkout by angry delegates.

And like trade unions, the gardai and, in the past, prison officers have not been slow in making their views known through some form of protest.

As Justice Minister Alan Shatter said on Monday night as delegates at the annual conference of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors greeted his address with arms folded, there were very few justice ministers who had not been confronted with the silent treatment.
