Thomas Molloy: We must write new script to avoid Greek tragedy

THE ministry for economics in Athens sits at the end of a posh shopping street that is the Greek equivalent of Grafton Street.

Yesterday afternoon, the windows were boarded up with metal, and armed police as well as fire tenders stood ready for a replay of the disturbances earlier this summer which saw rioters smash plate-glass windows and destroy dozens of shops.

Now there is a worry that many of the policy mistakes and failed strategies that led Greece to this point are being repeated in Ireland today.
