This industry didn't care for the consumers lining its pockets

THE 38-page horsemeat report read out to the Dail by Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney is a damning critique of our meat sector.

It confirms all of our worst suspicions that there is a lack of transparency – and a lack of respect for both the consumer and the role of the authorities in protecting the consumer.

It lays out how one of Ireland's biggest meat processors, QK Meats, bought tonnes of meat from no less than 19 different Polish suppliers over the course of at least six months – despite having already found out that some of the meat it was importing had tested positive for horsemeat.
