The One Percent that makes a big difference
THE last few years have been tough both for Irish business and the Irish people, with one-third of the nation's wealth and thousands of jobs lost. But throughout this period the people of Ireland have dug deep to support worthy causes, both in Ireland and abroad. On an annual basis the generous people of Ireland (often the people who can least afford it) donate an estimated €460m to charitable causes.
There are also plenty of examples of companies in Ireland who are doing wonderful work to support deserving causes and their local communities.
Recently, Business in the Community published research showing that in 2012 its 46 member companies contributed more than €21m in cash, goods, services and over 140,000 volunteer hours to charities and community groups.
