The key thing I want in my president: good judgment
There are three important attributes we need to seek in our next president and those are judgment, judgment and judgment. It's one of those values that you don't realise just quite how important it is, until there's been a lapse.
As President Mary McAleese leaves the Aras, with the intention of furthering her studies in Canon Law, probably in Rome, she is entitled to be very pleased with herself that she displayed such flawless judgment during her 14 years in the Phoenix Park.
This notion of judgment can cover anything, from hem length to whether, as president, you did the right thing in referring a certain Bill to the Supreme Court for a judgment on its constitutionality.
