The blackest day of the blackest week seen since the Civil War
The events of last week have now consigned Lenihan as well as Cowen to utter failure, writes Daniel McConnell

It is hard to think of a more inept, chaotic and crushing week in the life-time of Brian Cowen's Government.
A week that started with constant denials from ministers that anything was afoot, (despite Ireland being briefed against by the ECB) has ended with the IMF in town, Ireland's fiscal sovereignty gone and Cowen and his Government in total and utter disgrace.
For days, despite overwhelming signals from all over Europe that talks have been going on, Cowen and his ministers lied and lied and lied to the Irish people, insisting nothing was going on.
