Taoiseach is less Action Man, more spin doctor

Fine Gael is so anxious to present an all-action hero image that it is a danger to itself and us, writes Jody Corcoran

Almost from day one, a tone was set for what will turn out to be the hallmark of this Government. It is one of style over substance. There is a word for it: "spin".

On Thursday, then, we were presented with an image of the Taoiseach on a 35km trek, baseball cap thrust backwards upon his sweated brow.

On the same day, in the real world, we learned again that "spin" is indeed a dark art best left to those who understand where it may begin but must end.
