Shoppers will need to look harder for bargains

DON'T spend your precious Saturday driving miles around the country to get a better deal on your groceries because it'll only save you a measly 40 cent on a weekly shop of €100 if you go to one of the big three supermarkets.
The grocery price wars of the last year and a half seem to have finally paid off for consumers as prices across the board for branded goods have come down by a whopping 14pc since the "glory" days of the overstuffed Celtic Tiger.
But despite this welcome relief to cash-strapped customers, prices now appear to have stagnated, and the National Consumer Agency (NCA) is even warning they could be on the rise again as supermarkets jump on the bandwagon of Russian grain shortages to justify a new round of increases.
