IN the aftermath of 9/11, American diplomats worldwide were tasked with taking a heightened interest in the activities of Muslim communities in the countries where they were stationed.
Ireland was no exception, as can be seen from many of the leaked US embassy cables which originated in Dublin.
The US State Department regularly pressed embassy officials for up-to-date reports on Ireland's 40,000-strong Muslim population.
