Sam Smyth: Historic meeting will now be one of equals

The hand-of-history moment will happen around noon today when President Mary McAleese welcomes Queen Elizabeth II in Dublin as an equal.
This parity of esteem has been a long time coming but at midday each of their roles will be apparent: The President is the host and the queen is the visitor.
They have met before at Buckingham Palace but there was always an element of the poor neighbours visiting the Big House. Today, Mary McAleese, the democratically elected President of this Republic, will clearly be in charge at Aras an Uachtarain when she greets her distinguished guest.
