UNTIL 5.20pm yesterday, either Joan Burton or Pat Rabbitte was to get the second big job in Finance. A few minutes later, it was neither.
Brendan Howlin got the most sought-after job for a Labour minister in cabinet -- and according to later reports his appointment sparked off a war of words in the party.
The official explanation for a 30-minute postponement in naming the new ministers in the Dail was that the Taoiseach was delayed.
