Sam Smyth: EU still holds the strings as agreement reached

ALTHOUGH they laughed and joked like a couple renewing their marriage vows, Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore would not be each other's first choice for a Sunday evening stroll.

Yet the leaders of Fine Gael and the Labour Party sauntered through Herbert Park in Dublin yesterday like old pals on the way to the pub.

Fine Gael and the Labour Party have little in common beyond a shared disdain for Fianna Fail and a 14-year frustrated desire to get back into government.
