Retail sector is in need of therapy
Proactive attitude to crisis in Britain should have our Government squirming, writes Jerome Reilly
So how bad does it have to get before the Government actually does something to save retail? At stake are some 20,000 food and non-food businesses that are the heart and soul of towns and cities and employ tens of thousands of workers in every county.
For the past 37 consecutive months, sales have declined in Irish retail.
The results of that precipitous decline have been catastrophic. More than 40,000 jobs have been lost since 2008 and thousands more are hanging by a thread.
