Reports of newspapers' demise have been greatly exaggerated
Despite talk to the contrary, the Irish love affair with the printed word continues, writes Daniel McConnell
IF you listened to RTE's Morning Ireland on Friday, you would have thought the Irish newspaper industry was on its knees.
Following on from the publication of the latest ABC figures, which chart newspaper sales, the State broadcaster, through presenter Aine Lawlor, saw fit to tell the nation that it is a time of crisis for newspapers -- despite its own licence payer-supported annual losses of €28m announced earlier in the week.
Then yesterday morning, Charlie Bird ran a segment lamenting the decline of Irish newspapers.
