Recession? What recession, Olli?

YOU'D wonder if Olli Rehn is used to being treated like a superman. But in the latest instalment of the movie that is our lives these days, he became an unlikely hero. The country was under attack from Bond villains, shadowy figures who try to overthrow governments with threats of a ticking device that could blow us all up any minute.

And our main response was to try and develop Bond girls. Government advisors PwC even started rating a crack team of female accountants for hotness.

Then along came Olli Rehn to tell us everything was going to be OK. Olli was an international man of mystery. He didn't quite address us directly, but he met various important people who would then rush from their meetings with Olli Rehn to the nearest radio studio to give breathless interviews telling how they had met Olli Rehn. "Ooh. And what was he like? What did he say to you?" the equally breathless interviewers would ask.
