Power of the web can engage voters, but a busy Twitter account will not get a candidate elected

THERE will be plenty of tweeting from the Labour Party conference this weekend. When Eamon Gilmore delivers his leader's address later this evening in Galway, the online tweeters will probably go into overdrive.
They will provide instant judgments on everything from the colour of his tie to the success of his attacks on the Government.
It is no longer enough to simply watch these political set pieces. From the comfort of our living rooms, many of us are active participants.
