Plan just not working for Lenihan
It is now very clear the Government is struggling to maintain control, writes Daniel McConnell
YOU have to feel sorry for Brian Lenihan -- the man just can't catch a break. He has spent his entire time as Finance Minister fighting fires.
Two and a half years in, he is in charge of a collapsed economy which shows no sign of recovery; his banking plan is in disarray as the cost of borrowing rises to record highs; he is battling cancer and he was dragged into a debate about a leadership heave after the Taoiseach's antics caused a maelstrom.
Once again, there is a palpable sense of despair in the air, to use TK Whitaker's phrase about the Fifties.
