Philip Ryan: After five years in charge, HSE boss shows no progress
Tony O'Brien has been the director general of the HSE for the last five years.
Three separate Fine Gael ministers have come and gone out of the Department of Health during that period but Mr O'Brien has been a constant. Before he was appointed to the €195,000-a-year position, Mr O'Brien oversaw a special HSE unit tasked with getting a handle on the trolley crisis.
No disrespect to Mr O'Brien but given the amount of money the HSE has received over those years and the worsening state of our hospitals, it's fair to ask what has he been doing for the last five years.
