Perry's howler shows his luck is running out
Politicians are human. They make mistakes. Voters can be forgiving, even in this 24/7 rolling news world. But Rick Perry's failure to remember which of the three government departments he had promised to abolish was a monumental blunder that went to the heart of his White House candidacy.
What made the Texas governor's memory lapse so excruciating was that it was completely unforced. He was the one who had brought up his planned closure of three departments.
This wasn't a "gotcha" media questions about some arcane policy area. The wound was entirely self-inflicted.
