Part of us wanted to see what would happen - but we must never find ourselves here again

For a minute the excitement was almost too much for everybody to take. Chaos everywhere. A government being pushed towards breaking point. A police force rendered uncontrollable. And a population allowed to run free for a day.

It would be like Joe Duffy's 'Liveline' on speed - but the Labour Court managed to pull the plug just before we got to find out what would happen.

There's a part in all of us that wanted to see the gardaí go on strike. It's a bit like the part of us that thinks Donald Trump will make a very entertaining president. Or the same part that thought Brexit would fill the slow news days over the summer months.
