Olympic Council's ability to answer questions doesn't fill you with confidence

It was early on Friday afternoon when rumours began to circulate that another controversy was about to emerge from Rio.

Two boxers had been caught placing inappropriate bets while at the Olympics, contrary to the strict regulations set down by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). If true it would lead to more embarrassment for Ireland after a fortnight that most would like to forget.

I began the usual process of ringing contacts who might have the inside track while my colleague Martin Grant chased answers through the official channels.
