Old warhorse a deft cabinet operator
Enda Kenny could benefit from Liam Cosgrave's experience in hammering out a coalition deal, writes John-Paul McCarthy
ONE of the sweetest images of Fine Gael's election victory was that of the elderly Liam Cosgrave picking up the phone to congratulate the fresh-faced dauphin from Mayo.
Cosgrave told Kenny that March 9 had a special resonance in Fine Gael lore because that was the date in 1932 when Cosgrave's father made way for the incoming Fianna Fail tide.
Here's hoping that Kenny takes a few more phone calls from the old warhorse between now and the formation of his Cabinet.
