Nicholas Leonard: Cameron will need more than Big Brother to fix his country
The British prime minister, David Cameron, went to the Oval last week to see England beat India at cricket. After the match, he rang US President Barack Obama to do a little boasting: "I said 'there are terrible things happening in the world but at least England is number one at cricket'. But he said 'you invented the game. That's like saying America is number one at baseball or American football'."
Obama is not the only one unimpressed with Cameron these days. His leadership rating in the opinion polls has fallen to its lowest level ever amid mounting concern about the faltering economy and, of course, the vicious rioting and looting in major English cities.
The violence brought an abrupt end to Cameron's holiday in Italy but he has now taken another break and was seen out shopping in Cornwall yesterday.
