Never let them see you down -- TV beauties bow out gracefully

The axe having being wielded by RTE a mere two days earlier, it was the Seoiges' final afternoon show, but if the sultry sisters were cheesed off at their summary execution, they certainly weren't showing it.
Indeed, they had never looked so relaxed, no doubt buoyed by the messages of goodwill that had been bombarding the studio, but it was possible to detect a tinge of defiance, too -- never let the bastards see that it hurts. There was much guffawing from both of them, with Grainne's bawdy laugh in evidence throughout, and overall a sense of giddiness prevailed as regular contributors paid tribute to them.
Sile adopted the junior role while her elder sibling set the appropriate valedictory tone. "Thank you so much, darling," she told midlands correspondent Ronan, "for being with us throughout the year." And to travel expert Fionn it was: "Thank you, dote," for his contributions.
Nor was she shy about alluding to the missives from viewers, speaking at the outset of the "amazing texts and emails in support of the show" and reading out some of these messages, including one from an admirer who thought them "the loveliest presenters" ever seen on television. And as if to reinforce that judgment, both Seoiges had ensured they were at their drop-dead-gorgeous best.
The message, though unstated, was clear -- here we are, two beautiful, lively, warm, witty, personable, sexy women and if the dullards who run RTE can't see that, well, that's their problem because the rest of the country certainly can.
In terms of content, yesterday's final show itself was as it's always been -- 60 minutes of chit chat and puffery -- but the same can be said for 'The Afternoon Show' and that hasn't been axed, despite the fact that it doesn't even have the siren sisters to redeem it.
Grainne and Sile might well feel there's no justice, not out in Montrose, anyway. But they bowed out graciously, Grainne assuring us that it had been a "privilege and a pleasure." The pleasure was all ours, Grainne.
Also saying farewell yesterday was Lorraine Keane as presenter of TV3's 'Xpose', the programme that makes the Seoige show seem like 'Mastermind'. After the usual 30 minutes of twaddle, Lorraine bade us adieu, though as she seemed decidedly unsentimental about her departure, I managed to hold back the tears, too.
