Mud-slinging and insults nothing new in Aras race

Controversies during the presidential elections are certainly not unknown, as past campaigns have included anything from Nazi slurs to accusations of having mistresses, writes Brian Murphy

The presidential campaign has been variously described as controversial to one of the dirtiest on record.

But with 14 years since the last presidential election -- and with only six contested previously -- people forget that every race for the Park has been fraught with controversy, accusations, and mud-slinging.

Accusations of mistresses, raising swastikas, and absconding from military duty were par for the course.
