Moran expected to put squeeze on Department of Finance mandarins

HE'S hot favourite to become the next secretary general of the Department of Finance and the mere prospect is said to have the mandarins on Merrion Street shaking in their shoes.

And so they should be, because as the owner and proprietor of the JusSu juice bar in the picturesque French village of Cordes Sur Ciel, John Moran already knows a thing or two about mandarins, albeit of a different kind, and how to put the squeeze on them.

Putting Mr Moran's French business interests aside, however, it should be pointed out that the 45-year-old UCD and University of Pennsylvania-educated lawyer also knows his way around the international money markets better than he knows the farmers' markets.
