MARTIN Cullen was a key influence in securing the new €1.6bn motorway from Dublin to Waterford which is due to be finished this year.
But, according to a political source, he found Health Minister Mary Harney was not particularly helpful when he was trying to push the project through at the cabinet table.
Could it perhaps have had something to do with the fact Mr Cullen had left a trail of recrimination behind him when he quit the Progressive Democrats in 1994 shortly after Ms Harney became leader?
