Michael Brennan: Attacked from all sides -- but Reilly faces an even bigger battle
IT was another bad day yesterday for 'Dicey Reilly'. The Health Minister lost the man at the top of the HSE, fell out spectacularly with his junior minister Roisin Shortall and became an even bigger target for an Opposition now scenting blood.
And the big picture is that he is struggling to deal with the €280m deficit in the health budget, which could have a terrible impact on patients before the year is out.
He could have done with the help of Cathal Magee, an acknowledged expert in change management from his time at Eircom. The Cavan man was actually popular with TDs, who praised him for his frank performances at Dail committees and his willingness to spell out what needed to be done.
