But there are a number of studies emerging now which claim that the impact of constant use of the computer and the web is making people stupider and shallower.

Nicholas Carr's book 'The Shallows: How the Internet Is Changing the Way We Think, Read and Remember' is regarded as an important analysis of the way the web -- and other forms of electronic communication -- are changing our brains.
