Mary Kenny: Ed Miliband wouldn't have got where he is without sibling rivalry

Leave aside politics for a moment and think of the family dynamics involved in the leadership of Britain's Labour Party, with the brothers David and Ed Miliband top favourites to win. And now younger brother Ed, aged 40, has won, meaning that in the fullness of time he is likely to be British prime minister.

Not bad for a boy whose parents were poor Jewish refugees who escaped from the Nazis by the skin of their teeth.

It may be a little soppy, but perhaps mothers, or parents in general, have been fascinated by the element of "sibling rivalry" in this story. All parents who have raised more than one child know that sibling rivalry is an element of family dynamics.
