Marc Coleman: The long game shows signs of promise
Patience is certainly a virtue when it comes to dealing with the EU, something our Government understands well, writes Marc Coleman
It looks like Roy Keane was wrong: Our game in Europe is not so bad after all. And the loyalty and patient optimism of Irish fans -- values derided in these cynical times -- may not be as misplaced as he thinks.
Not since they met on St Patrick's Day, on the slopes of Croagh Patrick, have Enda Kenny and Giovanni Trapattoni shared a moment like the one they must have shared on Thursday.
For Trap, consolation: Whatever happens in Kiev today, his team was knocked out by the two finalists. For Enda, vindication. Even if it doesn't bring victory -- our debt game is still in half time -- his Trap-like strategy of "patience and timing" seems to be the only game in town.
