Look out, Sarkozy -- Enda's in charge!
The Taoiseach has some explaining to do as to his role at the last EU summit, says Willie O'Dea
Holiday time; I need a break. However, before I can relax properly I urgently need answers to three questions which are weighing heavily on me. All concern the last EU summit, which resulted in a number of concessions for Greece, Ireland and Portugal.
Firstly, what was Ireland's precise role in securing this deal? I was under the impression that this deal was cooked up by Merkel and Sarkozy after much horse-trading and then presented to the other EU leaders as a fait accompli. How naive I was.
Now we are solemnly informed by very important members of the Irish commentariat this is not what really happened at all. Apparently Enda Kenny was the central figure behind the scenes all along.
