Lise Hand: Muppets say sorry over Piggygate but Ming sticks to guns

Mick Wallace was sporting a new ensemble yesterday. It was a bespoke suit of sackcloth and ashes. Woebegone Wallace may have been wearing his usual pink shirt, but the colour du jour was most definitely scarlet after Piggygate hit the headlines.

He and his fellow Muppets, Shane Ross and Ming Flanagan, had been caught in flagrente disrespecto on an open microphone in the Dail chamber during a vote, and during their cosy little chat, the Wexford TD rudely remarked of Fine Gael's Mary Mitchell O'Connor, "Miss Piggy has toned it down a bit today".

Cue disapproving headlines, muttering about that other porcine beast (sexist pig) and so before the cock had crowed once let alone three times, Mick was on the phone to Mary at 6.30am yesterday. (Word to the wise, deputy, never phone up an angry woman at dawn).
