It was an 'all kinds of everything' sort of day for David. Just before 8pm last night, presidential nominee Senator David Norris descended in a glass lift on to the ground floor of Dublin City Council like a Botticelli Bearded Venus.
As the doors opened he emerged into an unmerciful scrum of cheers and shouts. There was noisy celebration from a group of his supporters who were overjoyed that their man had finally got over the finish-line, albeit paddy-last.
