SOME people get book tokens or an iPod for their birthday. But not Enda. Our Taoiseach got the GPO, the President, a parade of Army, Navy and Air Corps personnel, and even a fly-past of his very own by a quartet of jets.
For as serendipity would have it, the annual 1916 Easter Rising Commemoration ceremony fell on Enda's 60th birthday yesterday, April 24, which was the first day of the Rising 95 years ago.
The commemoration, which resumed five years ago under then-Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, is a simple, low-key and dignified ceremony, with no political rhetoric or any speeches save for the reading of the Proclamation and a short prayer.
