Lise Hand: Eastern promise in Mary's warm reception from big buddy China
IT WAS head-meltingly hot and steamy in Shanghai yesterday, which made venturing outdoors a bit daunting. So it was fortunate for President Mary McAleese that all the business on the last day of her state visit to China was conducted in the cool, air-conditioned haven of the palatial Pudong Shangri-La Hotel -- the manager of which establishment is, inevitably, Irish.

The President's day kicked off bright and early with an Enterprise Ireland breakfast, which, despite the 8am start, drew a mixed crowd of 350 Irish and Chinese business people.
