Lise Hand: Dail gets catty as claws come out for 'reprehensible' Richard
Richard Bruton must be darned glad that he lives in a democracy. Otherwise he might've found himself on the sharp end of a spot of waterboarding, such was the collective governmental wrath that was visited upon his earnest little head yesterday.
There was uproar in the Dail and outrage outside it, in the aftermath of the Fine Gael spokesman's claim, the previous day, that EU overlords would henceforth have the final say on our national budgets, and that new European Commission proposals were set to put the kibosh on Ireland's bargain-basement corporation tax rate of 12.5pc.
"Reprehensible!" thundered Brian Lenihan. "Very dangerous and reprehensible!" proclaimed Micheal Martin on 'Morning Ireland', and shortly after that a "dumbfounded" Batt O'Keeffe spluttered, "I'm surprised that Richard, who is generally a very responsible and able spokesman would in fact come out of the closet. . ." as a Eurosceptic, that is.
