BRIAN Cowen stood alone on the lawn of Government Buildings, clad in metaphorical sackcloth and ashes as he attempted -- for the second time in 48 hours -- to discuss his dismal 'Morning Ireland' performance.
He looked a forlorn sight -- no cheering troops behind him this time as there were at his previous press conference.
And when he spoke he was unusually tentative -- subdued rather than sullen -- and expressed contrition not for what he did, but for how the whole affair blew up and ruined his party's think-in.
