IF you can ever have sympathy for a multi-millionaire businessman with an ego to match his wallet, then spare it for Terry Matthews.
He is estimated to have spent over €150m on preparing the Celtic Manor Resort for the Ryder Cup, and another €75m in getting the rights to stage it.
And for what? A chaotic, stop-start, frustrating and costly mess of a Ryder Cup simply because the course could not handle the heavy rain of Thursday evening/Friday and Saturday night/yesterday morning.
