Ireland's old folks have gone hobo. According to Active Retirement, growing numbers of pensioners are using their free travel passes to make otherwise aimless trips by train in order to cut back on the cost of heating their homes.
Dubbed "day-trippers" by railroad staff, the cold fogeys reportedly travel in groups, bringing packed lunches and flasks of tea as a further money-saving measure.
Some hand-wringing worrywarts have attempted to portray this development as a shameful new departure in the degradation of the vulnerable but, in truth, the heat-seeking expeditions actually sound quite pleasant.
