IT was on with the best bib and tucker (and snow-shoes) yesterday for the Men Who Would Be Taoiseach.

While Fianna Fail reeled over the latest set of statistics that was published in what was less a Red C poll than a Dead FF poll, the leaders of Fine Gael and Labour were both unveiling figures of their own.

For it was a Pre-Budget Bonanza, a morning of sums when each of those parties got to put their money where their mouth was by revealing how they would scrape together the required billions needed to keep Ireland Inc on the road and to prevent the IMF men from repossessing our furniture.
