Keeping up with the Kardashians provided perfect opportunity to showcase Ireland

BRAND Ireland has surely benefited from the visit from the Prince and Princess of Celebrity, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The sojourn of Mr and Mrs West to the West, is making headlines all around the world and Ireland's stock has sky-rocketed as a result. The international celebrity community has once again been reminded about Ireland's allure as a potential destination, where high-profile visitors can relax undisturbed by pursing paparazzi or an invasive public.

Ireland has always enjoyed the rather dubious and fanciful notion that we do not care about celebrity; that we are happy to allow celebrities to roam our rolling green hills undisturbed by mere mortals. Ireland is a sort of Jurassic Park for the rich and famous. We like to think that our shores are unblemished by autograph hunting sycophants who will do anything for an opportunity to press the flesh, or grab a selfie. Does Ireland deserve the laid back reputation that we enjoy internationally?

We are for the most part a self-deprecating nation and as such we are largely prevented from engaging in overt and spontaneous adulation, even when it is well deserved.
