Just when we're down, a gift horse rides into town
A mecca for those who want to give thoughtful presents is about to dazzle us, writes Angela Scanlon
We Irish, despite all talk fiscal and frugal, are still a nation of thoughtful gift givers. But, apparently, that is not quite as hedonistic as it sounds.
According to Brown Thomas fashion director Shelly Corkery, "gifting" can be a challenge and even Ireland's top department store, she says, left a lot to be desired.
"As a nation we are extremely generous. We prefer to give than receive, we appreciate sentiment and like the idea that something is handpicked. Last Christmas I was looking for gifts in the store but, apart from pieces in the luxury section on the ground floor, I realised we weren't doing a very good job."
