Johnny Fallon : No, more like I'm a candidate .. get me out of here
ANOTHER day another Presidential debate. Will we change our opinions solely on the basis of it? Probably not.
We are all familiar with reality TV contests these days, from Big Brother to I’m a celebrity, typically in such shows there is someone with a game plan that involves having a few fights and disagreements to ensure that they get coverage and don’t fade into the background and get voted off. The race for the Áras looked something similar last night.
With seven candidates in the field it becomes difficult to ever get beyond sound bytes in any debate. Mary Davis struggled to make any real impact. She answered her questions but never really looked composed or particularly strong and by not wishing to take a firm position on anyone else or their policies she faded badly. Davis needs to demonstrate what her experience will mean and what exactly it is she does. Ordinary people just don’t get what her function or position has been and although they genuinely respect her they struggle to identify with her. She looked tired and just never really got a grip on the debate.
