GIVEN the world of difference that exists between the broadcasting personalities of Ryan Tubridy and Vincent Browne -- one a springer spaniel who loves to play ball, the other a rottweiler who likes to play rough -- it was hardly surprising that the presidential debates they conducted were in such striking contrast.
For instance, in 'The Late Late Show' debate last Friday night, Michael D Higgins registered as the person most likely to win the approval of voters and he accomplished this simply by looking statesmanlike and by curbing his tendency towards rhetorical excess.
But he was never really tested by Ryan Tubridy, whose questioning, although professional and pertinent, was so polite as to be over-accommodating.
